📖 介紹

Umihara Kawase is a 1994 SNES cult classic platformer where a schoolgirl uses a fishing rod to swing through surreal, physics-based worlds.

Released in 1994 for the SNES, Umihara Kawase is a one-of-a-kind platformer developed by TNN-Visit and published by Natsume Japan. It quickly gained a devoted following for its innovative grappling mechanics and offbeat design, earning status as a cult classic among retro gaming enthusiasts.

Players navigate over 50 nonlinear stages by swinging, launching, and rebounding off aquatic obstacles using an elastic fishing line. Momentum, tension, and timing are everything — there is no combat, only clever traversal. The game features multiple endings depending on how players choose to progress through its branching level designs.

The protagonist is Kawase, a cheerful schoolgirl on an underwater adventure through whimsical, fish-filled realms. Despite being renamed Sally in the Western fan translation, the original character remains one of gaming's most memorable leads. Her environment is populated by quirky creatures that double as platforms rather than foes.

Umihara Kawase is widely credited as an early influence on later physics-based games like Getting Over It, and its dreamlike world-building has been cited as an inspiration for titles such as Yume Nikki. Its unique blend of precision platforming and surreal charm keeps it relevant decades after release.
