Sonic Classic Heroes

Sonic Classic Heroes is an ambitious fan-made project that merges the beloved 2D level design of the original Sonic Genesis titles with the innovative formation-based team gameplay introduced in Sonic Heroes. Released in 2023 by the fan-game-community, it stands as one of the most technically impressive Sonic fan creations to date.

Players control teams of three characters, switching between Speed, Flight, and Power formations on the fly using the B button. Each formation unlocks different pathways and challenges across redesigned versions of iconic zones from Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The C button unleashes devastating Team Blasts once charged, adding a strategic combat layer to the fast-paced platforming.

The game features all seven main character teams from Sonic Heroes, faithfully recreated in 16-bit style. Each team has its own unique storyline that reinterprets classic Sonic lore through a team-based narrative framework, giving familiar characters fresh motivations and dynamics.

With custom physics, original sprite work, and authentic music arrangements, Sonic Classic Heroes captures the spirit of 16-bit Sonic while introducing modern team mechanics.
