Shadow Dancer
📖 介紹
Shadow Dancer (1989) is a Sega arcade action-platformer and spiritual successor to Shinobi. Command a ninja and his wolf companion Yamato through urban stages, using stealth kills and chain combos for high scores.
Developed by Sega's AM1 division and released in 1989, Shadow Dancer runs on the Sega System 18 hardware, delivering smoother animations and parallax scrolling that set it apart from the original Shinobi. As a spiritual successor in the Shinobi series, it refined the formula with tighter controls and a fresh urban setting.
The game introduces a risk-reward scoring system centered on stealth kills—eliminating unaware enemies with a single shuriken grants bonus points but leaves you vulnerable during the animation. Chain kills multiply your score, and the dedicated Dog Attack button commands wolf companion Yamato to strike enemies or auto- defend against projectiles.
Players control a modern-day ninja navigating five urban stages teeming with enemies. The white wolf companion Yamato serves as both attack dog and bodyguard, making the duo a deadly team. A standout moment is the train hijacking stage, where players fight atop moving subway cars—a sequence later referenced in Streets of Rage 2.
Shadow Dancer remains a notable entry in the Shinobi franchise for its innovative companion mechanic and bold stage design. Its stealth kill system and scoring depth reward skilled play, and the train stage has become a fan-favorite moment in Sega arcade history.
