Released in 1996 by Seibu Kaihatsu, Raiden Fighters is the first entry in the Fighters trilogy and a spiritual successor to Raiden II. It redefined the Raiden series with faster-paced action, multiple selectable aircraft, and a sophisticated scoring system that set a new standard for vertical shooters.
The game features a rank-based difficulty system where enemy patterns grow more intense as you perform better. Its signature chaining mechanic rewards precise, consecutive enemy destruction with multiplied points. Players must manage bombs strategically and use the speed adjust button to control bullet density for optimal dodging.
Three distinct fighter jets are available: the Fighting Thunder ME-02, the prototype Slave, and the Judge Spear.
