Power Drift
📖 介紹
Race through twisting pseudo-3D tracks in Sega's 1988 arcade classic. Master exaggerated drift mechanics across five scenic courses on the Y Board hardware.
Released in 1988, Power Drift is a pioneering arcade racing game by Sega that showcased the capabilities of the Y Board hardware. It utilized advanced sprite-scaling and rotation technology to create a convincing pseudo-3D experience, setting a new standard for arcade racers of its era.
The game features five unique courses characterized by dramatic elevation changes, sharp banked curves, and rollercoaster-like tracks. Players control their vehicle using a steering wheel for direction, two pedals for acceleration and braking, and a gear shift to change the camera view, allowing for precise control during high-speed drifts.
As a pure arcade racer, Power Drift focuses on track mastery rather than narrative. The gameplay centers on mastering exaggerated sliding mechanics to navigate tight corners and maintain speed, supported by a dynamic soundtrack composed by Hiroshi Kawaguchi that changes intensity during races.
Power Drift is widely credited with pioneering the 'drift racing' subgenre and heavily influenced later iconic titles such as Ridge Racer and Daytona USA. Its innovative use of hardware and focus on sliding mechanics remain a significant milestone in the history of arcade racing games.
