The Legend of Zelda: Ultimate Trial is a fan-made total conversion of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. Released in 2024 by the ultimate-trial-team, this ambitious ROM hack reimagines Link's journey with an entirely new adventure built on one of the most beloved games in Nintendo history.
The hack features an in-game achievement system to track your progress, equipment upgrades throughout the adventure, and multiple difficulty settings adjustable from the pause menu. A standout feature is the enemy spawn randomizer with three modes—disabled, thematic, and chaotic—each dramatically reshaping the gameplay on repeat playthroughs.
Deep within the Lost Woods, Link and Navi discover a mysterious stronghold guarded by a protector named Shiba. To proceed, Link must conquer three trials before facing the Ultimate Trial itself. The experience is enriched by custom locations, original music, and unique enemies not found in the base game.
Version 1.2.2 brings widescreen support, a Spanish translation, visual enhancements, and gameplay tweaks. The development team has also released a full guide and soundtrack, making this one of the most polished and complete fan projects in the Zelda ROM hacking community.
