Released by SNK in 1987, Guerrilla War is a fast-paced run-and-gun arcade classic loosely inspired by the Cuban Revolution, following two guerrilla fighters modeled after Fidel Castro and Che Guevara as they storm through enemy territory to overthrow a dictatorship.
The game features a top-down perspective with eight-directional shooting, giving players full control over aim while moving. Instead of traditional lives, each player has a health bar that rewards skillful play. Power-ups include machine guns, flamethrowers, and grenades, with occasional tank segments adding variety to the combat.
Players advance through jungle landscapes and military bases, rescuing imprisoned allies and destroying enemy installations along the way. The game supports cooperative two-player gameplay, allowing friends to fight side by side against waves of soldiers, helicopters, and armored vehicles.
